Sequencing with the HVAC contractor
The order is test, remove, then change out. A sample before the HVAC bid lets the installer price clean metal instead of an unknown, and the abatement can be booked the week before the new equipment arrives. Contractors who work on 100 square feet or more of asbestos-containing material must register with Cal/OSHA, and a C-22 asbestos abatement classification is on record at the state licensing board.
Duct jobs can stay under the Air District's notification thresholds, but the sample-and-test duty for HVAC systems does not shrink with the job. Waste is classified by its friability and asbestos content, and cost follows run length, access, the number of materials, the containment and disposal.
A new furnace sometimes arrives with an addition or conversion, and the asbestos abatement before additions, ADUs and demolition page covers that sequence. For the remaining services, see the Union City Asbestos Removal homepage.
